Filipino Food and Culture Chat

Filipino Food Crawl, in collaboration with Nastasha Alli and Bettina Makalintal, hosted its first event for the year — a Food and Culture Chat.

Filipino Food Crawl was initially a food tour in New York City but because of the pandemic, I had to reimagine this passion project. This event is part of that re-imagination. I like to think of this event as a different type of food tour — instead of feasting on sisig, sinigang, and silogs that fill our bellies, we will feast on food for thought to feed our minds and inspire our spirits.

To most of us, Filipino food has become a source of comfort from the challenges of 2020 -- we cooked more, tried new recipes and rediscovered old ones, and we had the chance to take a closer look at the stories behind our food. Nastasha, Bettina and I feel that the new year calls for a newfound appreciation for the cuisine we love so we thought it would be great to gather everyone to meet and have a relaxed chat.

We were able to raise $200 from ticket sales that will go towards supporting MAD Travel’s Feed Farmers Today; Fund Tomorrow’s Forest project, an initiative to help indigenous communities in Bataan and Zambales. Here’s a video from Raf Dionisio to share more about where the proceeds will go:
